How the Habit Counter Works

The Habit Counter counts each time you perform a chosen habit and tracks your streak of days meeting the daily goal.

  1. Name the habit: Enter the habit, such as Drink water or Read 10 pages.
  2. Set a daily goal: Choose how many times per day counts as a success, such as 8 glasses.
  3. Tap each time: Tap after each occurrence of the habit.
  4. Build the streak: Each day that meets the goal adds 1 to the streak.

Habit Counter Formula

The Habit Counter consistency rate equals the days the goal was met divided by days tracked, multiplied by 100. The streak equals consecutive successful days up to today.

Consistency (%) = Goal days ÷ Tracked days × 100 | Streak = consecutive goal days ending today
Goal days
Days the count reached the goal
Tracked days
Days since tracking started

Example: Over 30 days, a user meets the water goal on 24 days. Consistency = 80%. The last 9 days all met the goal, so the streak is 9.

About the Habit Counter

A Habit Counter is a tally tool that counts repetitions of a chosen habit and tracks daily goals and streaks.

Research by Phillippa Lally at University College London found that new habits took a median of 66 days to become automatic, with a range from 18 to 254 days. Daily counts show progress through that period.

Ways to Use the Habit Counter

The Habit Counter has 5 main uses, including water intake and reading goals.

  • Water intake: Count glasses toward a daily target.
  • Reading goals: Count pages or chapters each day.
  • Quitting habits: Count cravings resisted or cigarettes smoked.
  • Posture breaks: Count standing breaks during desk work.
  • Gratitude practice: Count gratitude notes written each day.
