How the Lap Touch Counter Works

The Lap Touch Counter adds 1 each time you tap at the end of a lap and converts laps into total distance using the lap length. Each lap is timed, so you see lap splits and pace.

  1. Enter the lap length: Type the lap length, such as 400 m for a track or 25 m for a pool.
  2. Tap at each lap: Tap the large surface as you cross the line.
  3. See distance and pace: The tool shows laps, distance and the time of the last lap.
  4. Review splits: The list shows every lap time and the fastest lap.

Lap Touch Counter Formula

The Lap Touch Counter distance equals laps multiplied by lap length. Pace equals elapsed time divided by distance.

Distance = Laps × Lap length | Pace = Time ÷ Distance

Example: A runner finishes 12 laps of a 400 m track in 52 minutes. Distance = 4.8 km (2.98 mi). Pace = 52 ÷ 4.8 = 10:50 per km (17:26 per mile).

About the Lap Touch Counter

A Lap Touch Counter is a lap tally that tracks laps, distance and lap times. The tool suits running tracks, pools, cycling tracks and indoor loops.

A standard outdoor running track measures 400 m in lane 1. Pools come in 25 m short-course, 50 m long-course and 25 yd sizes. Counting laps by memory is error-prone after 20 or more laps, which a tap counter avoids.

Ways to Use the Lap Touch Counter

There are 5 main uses of the Lap Touch Counter, including swim training and track sessions.

  • Swim training: Coaches count lengths for swimmers in each lane.
  • Track sessions: Runners count 400 m laps in interval work.
  • School fun runs: Volunteers count laps for each child.
  • Indoor walking: Walkers count laps in malls or sports halls.
  • Cycling velodromes: Riders count laps of a 250 m track.
