How the Repeating Touch Counter Works

The Repeating Touch Counter counts up to a cycle length, records 1 completed cycle and restarts at 0 for the next round. A second number shows how many full cycles are done.

  1. Set the cycle length: Enter the number of counts per cycle, such as 10 reps per set or 33 beads per round.
  2. Tap through the cycle: Each tap adds 1 to the current cycle count.
  3. Roll over at the limit: The cycle count returns to 0 when it reaches the cycle length, and the cycle number rises by 1.
  4. Read both numbers: The display shows the current cycle position and the total cycles completed.

Repeating Touch Counter Formula

The Repeating Touch Counter cycle count equals total taps divided by the cycle length, rounded down, and the position equals the remainder.

Cycles = floor(Taps ÷ L) | Position = Taps mod L
Taps
Total taps made
L
Cycle length
floor( )
Rounds down
mod
Remainder after division

Example: A cycle length of 12 with 41 taps gives floor(41 ÷ 12) = 3 cycles and 41 mod 12 = 5 taps into the 4th cycle.

About the Repeating Touch Counter

A Repeating Touch Counter is a cyclic counter that resets itself after a fixed number of counts and tallies the completed cycles. The tool tracks 2 levels at once: counts inside the cycle and cycles overall.

Electronics engineers call this a modulo-N counter. In daily use, the tool replaces 2 separate clickers, one for reps and one for sets.

Ways to Use the Repeating Touch Counter

There are 5 main uses of the Repeating Touch Counter, including sets and reps and prayer rounds.

  • Sets and reps: Count 10 reps per set and track 5 sets automatically.
  • Prayer rounds: Count 33 recitations per round and 3 rounds in total.
  • Music practice: Count beats per bar and bars per section.
  • Knitting repeats: Count rows inside a 12-row pattern repeat.
  • Packing cycles: Count items per box and boxes per pallet.
