How the Entry and Exit Counter Works

The Entry and Exit Counter uses 2 buttons, one for arrivals and one for departures, and records each direction as its own total. The tool shows entries, exits and the difference between them.

  1. Tap Entry for arrivals: Each person coming in adds 1 to the entry total.
  2. Tap Exit for departures: Each person leaving adds 1 to the exit total.
  3. Read both totals: Entries and exits stay separate, so neither number is lost.
  4. See the difference: Entries minus exits shows how many people remain.

Entry and Exit Counter Formula

The Entry and Exit Counter difference equals total entries minus total exits. Turnover equals total entries divided by the average number of people inside.

Difference = Entries − Exits | Turnover = Entries ÷ Average inside
Entries

Mean number of people present

Example: A café logs 210 entries and 196 exits by 15:00. Difference = 14 people inside. With an average of 30 inside, turnover = 210 ÷ 30 = 7 times.

About the Entry and Exit Counter

An Entry and Exit Counter is a two-button tally that counts arrivals and departures separately. Separate totals show both footfall and the live crowd size.

Retailers use entries as footfall, the number of visits. The difference between entries and exits shows how many people are inside. Both figures come from the same 2 taps.

Ways to Use the Entry and Exit Counter

The Entry and Exit Counter has 5 main uses, including shop footfall and library visits.

  • Shop footfall: Shops count visits and the number of shoppers inside.
  • Library visits: Staff count visits and check the building is empty at closing.
  • Pool sessions: Lifeguards count swimmers in and out of the pool.
  • Bus boarding: Drivers count boarding and alighting passengers.
  • Venue security: Door staff track arrivals and departures for incident reports.
