How the Full-Screen Touch Counter Works
The Full-Screen Touch Counter turns the whole display into one counting surface, so a tap anywhere on the screen adds to the total. The browser's Fullscreen API hides the address bar and tabs, which removes accidental taps on browser controls.
- Enter full-screen mode: Tap the focus or full-screen control. The counter fills 100% of the screen width and height.
- Tap without looking: Tap any part of the screen. The large surface lets you count by feel while you watch people, animals or objects.
- Confirm with sound: A short click sound plays on each tap, so you know the count registered without checking the display.
- Exit and read the total: Press Esc on a keyboard or swipe from the screen edge on mobile to leave full-screen mode. The total stays on screen.
Full-Screen Touch Counter Formula
The Full-Screen Touch Counter total equals the number of pointer-down events on the display multiplied by the step value. The usable target area equals the screen width multiplied by the screen height.
- Pointer-down events
- Touches, clicks or key presses detected
- Step
- Value added per tap
- Width × Height
- Screen size in CSS pixels or millimeters
Example: A phone screen measures 390 × 844 CSS px, or about 103 × 223 mm (4.06 × 8.79 in). The target area is 23,043 mm² (35.7 in²), more than 140 times larger than a 48 × 48 px button.

About the Full-Screen Touch Counter
A Full-Screen Touch Counter is a tally counter whose tap target covers the entire display. A larger target reduces missed taps, and Fitts's law shows that pointing time falls as target width grows.
The tool suits counting while your eyes stay on the scene. Door staff, birdwatchers and lab technicians hold the device in one hand and tap with the thumb, without aiming at a small button.
Ways to Use the Full-Screen Touch Counter
There are 5 main uses of a Full-Screen Touch Counter, including eyes-free crowd counting and accessible counting.
- Eyes-free crowd counting: Venue staff count guests at a gate while watching faces, not the phone.
- Accessible counting: People with limited hand precision or low vision tap any part of the screen to count.
- Child-friendly tallies: Young children count objects with large, forgiving taps.
- Gloved use: Warehouse and outdoor workers wearing touchscreen gloves hit a large target more reliably.
- Kiosk tallies: Event teams mount a tablet at a table, and visitors tap once to register a visit.
