How the Inventory Touch Counter Works

The Inventory Touch Counter counts stock item by item, with a separate tally for each product, and compares the counted quantity with the expected quantity.

  1. Add products: Create a counter for each product or stock-keeping unit (SKU).
  2. Enter expected stock: Type the system quantity for each SKU where known.
  3. Count the shelf: Tap the product's counter once per unit, or use +6, +12 or +24 for packs.
  4. Review variances: See counted, expected and the difference for every SKU.

Inventory Touch Counter Formula

The Inventory Touch Counter variance equals the counted quantity minus the expected quantity. Inventory record accuracy equals the share of SKUs with no variance.

Variance = Counted − Expected | Record accuracy (%) = SKUs with 0 variance ÷ SKUs counted × 100

Expected
Units recorded in the system

Example: SKU A123 shows 48 in the system, and the count finds 45. Variance = −3. If 92 of 100 SKUs match, record accuracy = 92%.

About the Inventory Touch Counter

An Inventory Touch Counter is a stock counting tool that tallies units per product on a phone or tablet. The tool replaces paper count sheets and calculators.

Stock counts come in 2 forms: full physical inventories, which count every item once or twice a year, and cycle counts, which count a small set of SKUs each day or week. Both rely on accurate unit tallies.

Ways to Use the Inventory Touch Counter

There are 5 main uses of the Inventory Touch Counter, including cycle counts and year-end stocktakes.

  • Cycle counts: Staff count a few SKUs each day to keep records accurate.
  • Year-end stocktakes: Teams count every product for annual accounts.
  • Shrinkage checks: Managers find products with repeated negative variance.
  • Bar and restaurant stock: Staff count bottles and cases after each service.
  • Small shops: Owners without scanners count stock by tapping.
