How the Counter History Viewer Works

The Counter History Viewer shows every change made to a counter in a time-ordered list, with the old value, the new value and the time of each change. You filter the list by date, action type or counter.

  1. Open the history: The list shows the most recent changes first.
  2. Filter changes: Show only additions, subtractions, resets or edits.
  3. Pick a time range: Limit the list to today, this week or a custom range.
  4. Inspect an entry: Each entry lists before value, after value, change and time.

Counter History Viewer Formula

The Counter History Viewer net change for a period equals the value at the end of the period minus the value at the start. The net change equals the sum of all logged changes in that period.

Net change = Value(end) − Value(start) = Σ Change(i)
Value(start), Value(end)
Counter values at the period edges
Change(i)
Each logged change in the period

Example: A counter reads 120 at 08:00 and 175 at 12:00. The log shows 61 additions of +1 and 6 subtractions of −1. Net change = 175 − 120 = 55 = 61 − 6.

About the Counter History Viewer

A Counter History Viewer is an audit log for a counter, listing every value change with its time. The viewer explains how a counter reached its current value.

Audit trails matter wherever counts carry weight, such as stock, votes or attendance. A count with a full change log is easier to check and defend than a single number.

Ways to Use the Counter History Viewer

The Counter History Viewer has 5 main uses, including count audits and dispute checks.

  • Count audits: Managers review each change behind a stock total.
  • Dispute checks: Scorers show when each point was added.
  • Error tracing: Users find where an unexpected jump happened.
  • Activity patterns: Users see busy and quiet times from the change log.
  • Shift handovers: Incoming staff review the outgoing shift's changes.
